An intimate dinner at a Marbella restaurant was the setting for Hollywood golden couple Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith’s birthday celebrations last week.

The birthdays of Banderas, who is from Málaga, and Griffith, fall just one day apart – he turned 53 on August 10, with his wife celebrating her 56th birthday the day before…

To celebrate, the pair were in town with friends and family, enjoying a low-key occasion away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi. However, insiders at the bash revealed that the happy couple’s birthday cake came adorned with two sparkler candles, and they were treated to an impromptu rendition of Happy Birthday from their guests.

The Hollywood couple have been enjoying a lengthy European summer holiday, which began in the south of France last week before they headed to Puerto Banús and Marbella last Friday.

The following day, their presence at Marbella’s annual Starlite Charity Gala sprinkled some welcome stardust on the event, where they happily posed for photos and chatted with local reporters.

Banderas loves returning to the region of his upbringing, and famously attends Málaga’s Easter processions each year. His love for the area – which is reciprocated among pretty much all Andalusians – has evidently rubbed off on Griffith, who is always happy to join her hubby on his many trips to Spain.

As famous faces go, there are few bigger. But as ever, Banderas and Griffith were a picture of taste, class, grace and humility during their time in Marbella. Long may the love affair continue…
