A poll by LHDCarSupermarket has named Marbella as the top luxury holiday destination of 2013.
The celebrity hotspot beat off Ibiza, Los Angeles and St Tropez for the gong, scooping a third of the total vote of the poll, which asked customers of LHDCarSupermarket for their most desired holiday destination…
Marbella has always been synonymous with glitz and glamour, but in recent years the resort has managed to widen its appeal while retaining an image of sophistication and cool. And while reality TV stars flock to the resort every summer, Hollywood A-listers do, too, meaning Marbella straddles both ends of the celebrity spectrum.
It is this juxtaposition of accessibility and exclusivity that is attractive to holidaymakers, who could feasibly spend an afternoon beside the pool at one of the resort’s numerous beach clubs in the company of the TOWIE cast, supermodel Claudia Schiffer, or a host of Premier League footballers.
The world’s clubbing capital, Ibiza, was second in the poll – its famous nightclubs and impressive beaches a favourite of international celebrities such as Kate Moss and Leonardo DiCaprio, while LA in third place is renowned for attracting superstars of screen and stage all year round.
“Nowadays a lot of people choose their holiday destination based on what they’ve seen and heard from others,” said a spokesperson for LHDCarSupermarket. “Places like Marbella are constantly in the media and being visited by celebrities, so it’s no surprise that a lot of holidaymakers want to follow suit.”
Spain had four resorts in the global top ten luxury travel destinations, more than any other country.
