King Felipe and Queen Letizia will visit the UK on Spain’s first official state visit of Britain for nearly 30 years.

King Felipe of Spain will make his first official state visit to the UK in 2016, the Spanish authorities have confirmed.

Accompanied by the glamorous Queen Letizia, the Royal Couple will stay at Windsor Castle between March 8 – 10 next year in what is the first Spanish state visit to Britain since 1986…

The 47-year-old has been King of Spain since June 2014, acceding to the throne following the abdication of his father Juan Carlos, who had reigned as Spanish King for 39 years but, in recent years, had suffered ill health and been accused of being behind the times.

There was further turmoil for the Spanish Royal Family when Felipe’s sister, Princess Cristina, was accused of tax fraud and implicated in an embezzlement scandal that engulfed her husband.

Cristina is set to face trial next January, but has always maintained her innocence.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia, however, have proven to be a photogenic breath of fresh air for the Spanish Royal Family, serving to dampen calls within some parts of Spain for the country to do-away with its monarchy and become a Republic.

The fact that the Spanish King will soon be cosying up to the UK crown for the first time in 30 years is another sure sign that Spain’s Royal Family has got its mojo back.
