With numbers showing no signs of flagging, 867,382 passengers flew into Málaga airport last month, a year-on-year increase of 18.4%.

Following a record-breaking year in which Spain’s tourism industry repeatedly and resoundingly smashed every record going, in January 2017, passenger numbers still showed no signs of slowing, with airports nationwide recording an average 10% increase in the number of people passing through their doors…

In fact, according to a recent report from Spanish airport operator Aena, all 18 of the country’s busiest terminals registered year-on-year increases last month, with the largest (+29.3%) at La Palma, followed by Valencia (+19.8%) and Málaga-Costa del Sol with +18.4% – equating to 867,382 passengers. Stats for January of this year also show that there were 7,286 take-offs and landings at Málaga airport representing an increase in operations of 15.3%.

Once again it was the UK which led the field with 245,421 passengers flying into/out of Málaga during the month, up 18.3% on figures for January 2016. Domestic passengers came next, followed by German and Dutch travellers numbering, respectively, 62,184 and 54,142.
