Málaga property sales highest since 2008

Of the 30,300 residential properties sold in Málaga province in 2017, close to 30% were acquired by overseas purchasers.

Last year, the province of Málaga – home to the Costa del Sol – registered no fewer than 30,300 residential property sales, a hefty 14.6% increase on figures for 2016, according to the College of Registrars, and the highest number since 2008…

Based on population size, this equates to 18.3 homes purchased per 1,000 inhabitants, putting Málaga province in second place nationwide after Alicante (on 18.7).

Underlining Málaga’s huge appeal to the foreign market, of these 30,000+ homes sold – which incidentally is twice Spain’s national average of 8.6 transactions per thousand citizens – close to 30% were acquired by overseas purchasers. To put this into context, the combined total of homes sold in 2017 in Andalucía  – comprising the provinces of Almería, Cádiz, Córdoba, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Sevilla and Málaga – stood at 89,337.
