Hopping on a city sightseeing bus is a great way for visitors to get to know the provincial capital of Málaga.

According to data just released by Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), the number of overseas visitors to Andalucía – which of course, in addition to Málaga, also comprises the provinces of Cádiz, Huelva, Sevilla, Jaén, Córdoba, Granada and Almería – was a huge 15% higher in January of this year than that recorded for the same month in 2016, while visits from Spanish nationals also grew by nearly 11% over the same period…

Of all 17 of Spain’s autonomous communities, Andalucía saw by far the largest rise, with the Canary Islands registering an increase of 7.7%, while figures for Catalonia were down by 1.8%.

Over 13% of the 3.9 million overseas holidaymakers visiting Spain in January opted for Andalucía. As ever, British tourists accounted for the lion’s share of that number with 521,116 visitors – equating to 25.2% of the total – while 9.7% were from Scandinavia.

Following on the heels of a record-breaking 2016, tourism professionals are confident that 2017 will prove to be another landmark year.
