August this year saw yet another annual increase in home sales in Spain – and right across the country, too.

With 41,282 home sales in the month of August, the Spanish property industry was once again reaping the benefits of an improved economic outlook across Europe this summer.

August’s sales figures from official INE data represent a 16% increase on the same month in 2016, and marks the seventh year-on-year increase in monthly home sales so far in 2017…

The anomaly to this trend arrived in April when sales figures were slightly down on April 2016 – a blip blamed on the fact Easter fell in April this year.

Nationwide, August also saw all 17 of Spain’s autonomous communities post an increase in home sales for the month, rising an incredible 37.9% in Castilla-La Mancha and 32.5% in Comunidad Valenciana, which also saw 163 sales per 100,000 inhabitants.

Taken as a yearly figure through to the end of August, Spanish home sales have reached 315,795 so far in 2017 – a 14% increase on the same period in 2016.

More widely, the 12 months between August last year and August this year have seen 443,483 properties sold. This is an increase of 13.1% on the previous 12-month figure and marks a massive increase in property activity since 2014, when the annual running total of property sales was below 300,000.
