Elton John to return to Costa del Sol after decade-long hiatus

British pop superstar Sir Elton John is set to perform in Andalucía for the first time in ten years this summer.

The crooner, 68, will appear on July 15 at Málaga’s Palacio de los Deportes Martín Carpena arena in what will be his first show in the region since appearing at the Mijas Hipódromo in 2005.

Best known for his inimitable piano-driven anthems and lovelorn ballads, Sir Elton has enjoyed an enviable five-decade career at the apex of the pop industry, and his reappearance in Andalucía is sure to be highly anticipated…

Elton John has shifted more than 300 million records worldwide during his career, and is perhaps most famous for the singles Rocket Man, Tiny Dancer and Candle in the Wind 1997 – a rewritten homage to Princess Diana following her untimely death in Paris that year.

The singer was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and in 2013 he was ranked by Billboard as the most successful Billboard Hot 100 Top All-Time Male Solo Artist – quite an accolade for an English kid from a council house in Middlesex.

The Costa del Sol has begun attracting a star-studded series of top pop performers in recent years, and this summer’s Starlite Festival in Marbella – which runs form July 22 to August 23 – boasts an exciting lineup that includes Lionel Richie, Lenny Kravitz and Andrea Bocelli.
