Former Chelsea player and ex-England international Ashley Cole has made a habit of making the headlines for his antics both on and off the pitch over the past decade, and the 34-year-old star did not disappoint during his recent holiday to Marbella.

The Roma star footed the bill for £20,000 worth of Veuve Clicquot champagne during one of the famous Champagne Spray Parties that are a feature of the Sintillate beach resort in Puerto Banús…


The footballer and former husband of popstar Cheryl was seen partying with pals around the pool, enjoying the sunshine, the attention and the financial freedom that comes from being one of the highest-paid players in world football over the past decade.

While £20,000 worth of champagne may seem wildly frivolous for the average Joe, for Cole it is a mere drop in the ocean. The defender has been handsomely rewarded over the course of his career and is thought to boast a net value of more than £30 million.

Puerto Banús – with its glitzy beach clubs and glamorous nightlife – is a favoured haunt of world-famous football stars, film and TV celebs, and some of the wealthiest playboys in the world.

Sintillate bills itself as “an environment where the fashion, music and film industry can mix in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere fuelled by cutting-edge music”.

Stars such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Chelsea’s John Terry have been spotted in Marbella in recent weeks enjoying the weather and nightlife, while Real Madrid’s Welsh forward Gareth Bale took time off from his end-of-season injury recently to play a few rounds of golf at some of the Costa del Sol’s finest courses.
