Hundreds of thousands of visitors descend on Córdoba for the Festival of Patios every year
Some of the most beautiful patios are located in the Judería, or Jewish Quarter, of the city
More than 50 different patios are competing for prizes awarded by the City Hall
A riot of colour, geraniums are the star of the show
Some of the patios belong to one-family homes where the rooms are traditionally arranged around the perimeter...
... others are shared by several neighbouring homes
Decorative wrought iron grilles show off the blooms to maximum effect
Architectural elements typically include cobblestone floors, clay tiled roofs and a cooling well or fountain
It's not only about patios... window grilles and balconies also get dressed up for the event
Imagine having to water all these pots every day, all year round, to make sure they're at their very best!
Right in the heart of the city, this peaceful and shady patio conjures up the Andalusian countryside
Home, sweet home
Every patio is as individual as its owner
Gardeners' heaven... fabulous flowers in myriad colours, and everywhere the heady scent of jasmine and orange blossom
Patios are judged on artistic and ornamental flair as well as the variety and quality of flowers, plants and pots
The 2013 edition of the Festival ends on 19 May, but since it's an annual event... there's always next year!
