Why Halloween should get you in the house-buying spirit

So Halloween is just around the corner. Whether you steadfastly ignore the trick or treaters at your door or dive severed-headfirst into the fun and gore of it all, one thing is for sure – now it's a perfect time to search for that dream home in Spain.

Why is that you ask? Well a lot can happen in autumn. It’s a professional time of year – schools and universities are in full swing, nobody seems to go on holiday and everybody is dutifully ticking over before the Christmas festivities begin. Things get done in autumn.

Which makes it a brilliant time to buy property in Spain, and here’s five reasons why:

1. The weather

During late October and early November, the Costa del Sol enjoys some of the highest temperatures in Europe. Temperatures will hover in the mid to low twenties, and when the sun shines it can feel even warmer.

But the flip side is just as interesting. This time of year can bring unsettled weather of grey skies and unpredictable rain. So if you are hoping to buy a property on the Costa del Sol, then it’s quite useful to see what the seasons do at various stages of the year, and autumn can give you a really varied flavour.

2. The atmosphere

Although the Costa del Sol is a year-round destination, there is no denying that the summer period between June and August is the busiest. September sees a soothing of the crowds, but there’s still a tangible ‘party’ atmosphere hanging over most resorts until at least mid-October.

Come the end of the month, however, and the tourists have largely flocked back home. The roads become less congested. Restaurants, bars and cafés return to a more sedate pace, and family attractions become a little easier to navigate. It’s a great time to get a feel for the various areas of the Costa del Sol that you are interested in. The pace of life at this time of year reflects Spain at its most relaxed. So you’ve searched for a property and found your dream home in Spain. Typical completion dates are between 6-8 weeks so, do the maths – and take out a week or so for the Christmas period – and you will quickly discover that you should be looking to complete very early in the New Year.
