US soul sensation and bonafide smooth operator Lionel Richie has been added to the star-studded lineup for this summer’s Starlite Festival in Marbella.
The 65-year-old singer and songwriter is set to headline the festival, which runs from July 22 to August 23, and will be joined by fellow US rocker Lenny Kravitz, Italian tenor and singer-songwriter Andrea Bocelli and Roger Hodgson of English rock band, Supertramp…
Organisers have confirmed that a couple of other headline names will be revealed over the passing months as anticipation builds for a show that last summer attracted more than 90,000 visitors.
This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better that 2014’s show, which was headlined by Welsh sex bomb Tom Jones, English synth-pop legends the Pet Shop Boys, and the incomparable melody-making machine that is the Beach Boys.
Held over four weeks at the height of summer at Marbella’s former Nagüeles quarry, the Starlite Festival is an evocative festival infused with a brilliant mix of international stars, local talents, Spanish musical legends and a healthy dose of glamour and extravagance.
The open-air stage is the perfect receptacle for the occasion, which is doused in the dusky warmth of a Spanish summertime and held under a canopy of Mediterranean stars and a glorious mountainous backdrop.
This year’s event promises to be even more spectacular because it will feature a special, 100th anniversary tribute concert to Frank Sinatra, the US crooner who has topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic across many decades, and who sadly passed away in 1998.
Many of Starlite’s biggest names will perform renditions of Sinatra’s best-loved songs, including Fly Me to the Moon, New York, New York, Strangers in the Night, and I’ve Got You Under My Skin.
