Los Arqueros Beach: Taylor Wimpey invest €15m in their new residential development in San Pedro

Back in the Costa del Sol property boom, scarcely a week went by without the official launch of at least one new residential complex somewhere on the Coast. But that’s so long ago now that I can’t even remember the last time I attended such an event, yet alone the name of the development!

So the official presentation of Taylor Wimpey España’s brand new Los Arqueros Beach project in San Pedro de Alcántara, on Thursday 22 November, was something of a red-letter day, and the significance of the occasion – the start of a new beginning for Marbella and more broadly the entire Costa del Sol – certainly wasn’t lost on the 100 or so people attending the event…

The Spanish subsidiary of Taylor Wimpey Plc – one of Britain’s leading homebuilders – Taylor Wimpey España are investing €15 million in their new project which, importantly, will also generate more than 160 much-needed jobs, both direct and indirect.

Such a milestone event naturally meant an impressive line-up of dignitaries, including Mayor, Ángeles Muñoz; Taylor Wimpey CEO, Peter Truscott; Taylor Wimpey España Regional Director Andalucía, Ignacio Oslé; and José Prado, president of the Provincial Association of Málaga Builders & Developers (ACP) – all of whom alluded to Marbella’s future potential.

After congratulating and thanking Taylor Wimpey for “choosing our town in which to develop a project of such magnitude”, Ángeles Muñoz went on to affirm that “the municipality of Marbella offers the legal and urban planning guarantees as well as the quality of life that encourage companies to invest here”, and pledged the town hall’s full support “for a project which will have such a huge economic impact on the area.”

“Despite the difficult economic situation in Spain, Taylor Wimpey continues to have enormous faith in prime residential tourism hotspots like Marbella,” said Peter Truscott, “and we will carry on doing so by looking for new business opportunities in the future.” He also pointed out that “in addition to its business objectives, Taylor Wimpey’s corporate responsibility is centred on giving added value to the communities where we are building homes. We always focus on the quality of life in the surrounding areas and work with town halls on issues such as the environment  and town planning improvements.”

Occupying a prime site in the Nueva Alcántara area of San Pedro, Los Arqueros Beach will consist of 114 three-bedroom, 2 bathroom apartments and penthouses with spacious terraces, situated within three 3-storey buildings; plus underground parking for 215 cars; 3,600m2 of commercial premises; and ample communal gardens with a large swimming pool and sunbathing areas.

Contemporary design and high specifications

Designed by the Liev-Rodríguez Architecture Studio, the elegant, contemporary-style properties will be built in accordance with the new technical building code, with new-generation thermal and acoustic insulation and solar panels. Luxury specifications include fully-fitted kitchens equipped with electrical appliances and sliding glass door communicating with the living area, as well as air-conditioning and marble floors.

Prices at Los Arqueros Beach – which include underground parking – start at just €195,000. The show flat is now open and completion is scheduled for July 2014. All payments made before the end of the year will be subject to the Spanish government’s reduced rate of 4% IVA (VAT) on new-build properties which is in force until 31 December 2012.
