May’s impressive figures bring to a total of 6,487,745 the number of passengers passing through Málaga airport in the first five months of 2017.

For the first time in its history, no fewer than 1.8 million passengers passed through Málaga airport in the shoulder month of May 2017, an increase of 11.2% on figures for the same period in 2016. To put that into perspective, that’s 200,000 more than in June last year – when 1.6 million passengers transited through the terminal – and 100,000 more than the total for September 2016 as well…

The statistics from Spain’s Airports and Air Navigation Authority (AENA), also show that among those of Spain’s airports handling the largest volumes of passengers, Málaga airport was the one to register the most growth, actually doubling the increase experienced in May by the Madrid and Barcelona terminals.

By country, the UK led the field again last month with 620,922 passengers travelling through the Málaga-Costa del Sol airport (10.2% more than a year previously). In second place came domestic travellers, followed by passengers from Germany (168,652) and the Netherlands (117,971).

May’s impressive figures bring to a total of 6,487,745 the number of passengers passing through Málaga airport on 48,922 flights in the first five months of the year, equating to an increase of 16% in operations and of 15.6% in passengers over this period.
