According to data published by Spain’s Airports and Air Navigation Authority (AENA) last week, the number of passengers passing through Málaga airport in July of this year reached an all-time high of 1,705,187 – the first occasion ever that figures for a single month have exceeded 1.7 million. This emphatically breaks the previous record when 1.68 million travellers used the Málaga-Costa del Sol airport in August 2014…
The two busiest days last month were 26 July (with 443 take-offs and landings) and 31 July (with 60,660 passengers). A total of 522,668 visitors in July were travelling either to or from the UK; followed in second place by 221,724 domestic passengers; 135,892 visitors heading either to or from Germany; 111,891 to or from France; and 980,397 flying either to or from Ireland.
London was the destination most people were travelling to or from, followed by Manchester, Dublin, Barcelona, Brussels, Copenhagen, Paris, Amsterdam, Oslo and Stockholm.
Other very positive news is that between January and July of this year, a massive total of 8,146,592 passengers have passed through Málaga airport, representing a highly significant 4.5 per cent increase compared with figures for last year. It’s also worth noting that July 2015’s record-breaking numbers are a whopping 180,000 up on those for July 2007. And since August is traditionally the busiest month on the Costa del Sol, it looks likely that we’ll be reporting on another new record in the next few weeks!
