Famous the world over for its jet-set clientele, stunning climate and unbeatable selection of fine restaurants, bars and clubs, Marbella is also one of the world’s leading property hotspots.
Boasting an array of property types suitable for all tastes and budgets, there are few finer locations on the planet in which to own a dream home in the sun. However, despite a welcome round of price corrections over the past couple of years – which has seen the average property price in Marbella fall by about 40 per cent – Marbella is still the go-to destination for homes at the higher end of the price scale…
Recent figures released by Marbella Town Hall show that Marbella sits at the heart of a property ‘Golden Triangle’ on the Costa del Sol. The triumvirate is formed by Estepona and Benahavis, but it is Marbella that, as ever, takes the limelight.
Data provided by the Málaga College of Architects shows that 119 new properties costing more than €300,000 have been built from scratch in this region since 2012 – a 20 per cent increase on the two years previous.
So far in 2014, Marbella Town Hall has issued building licences for 18 new residential construction projects. Their combined worth? €9 million. Should this pace continue throughout the rest of the year, new luxury residences in this region will more than double the 64 that were built last year.
Some 62 per cent of investors who have commissioned property chose to build in Marbella, with Estepona and Benahavís also proving popular. According to Marbella Town Hall’s Pablo Moro, the bulk of interest and investment has come from British buyers, with Germans and Scandinavians also showing a keen interest.
Of course, there are already plenty of luxury properties for sale throughout the Costa del Sol that are ready and waiting to be snapped up by overseas buyers keen on owning a dream home in this part of the world.
Regardless, this data proves what we at VIVA have been saying for a long time: if you want to live in a part of the world that delivers a brilliant lifestyle, wonderful weather, a wealth of cultural attractions, a family friendly atmosphere, endless fun and excitement, and that all-important kudos that comes with owning one of the most highly sought postcodes in the world, then there really is no beating the Costa del Sol.
