Would-be expat parents concerned about their children’s schooling will be pleased to discover that a new map showing all of the schools around the world that offer the British curriculum has just been published.
Created by expat advice service Expat & Offshore, the map has been designed to educate British families on where they can be assured that their child will be able to receive schooling that is not too far-removed from what they would at home…
Spain, as the most popular British expat destination on the planet, naturally tops the list, offering more than 60 establishments that are, ahem, well-schooled in the British curriculum. The majority of these can be found on the Costa del Sol – a fact that reaffirms the widely held belief that few other regions on earth are as well suited to British expats of all ages.
As might be expected, the majority of schools offering a British-style education are located in Europe, but the map shows clear clusters of schools concentrated in many areas of India, Pakistan, the east coast of the USA and along the eastern seaboard of Africa.
In total, the map contains more than 1,000 schools, including their address, contact information, website and nuggets of other handy info too, such as student numbers and, where applicable, average fees.
Of course, many expats-to-be may question why it is necessary to continue – or begin – a child’s education based on the British system when in Spain. After all, Spain’s educational system is free for residents, and is highly regarded.
However, many British parents may simply wish to educate their children on their heritage, and a British curriculum in a foreign country has the potential to offer the best of both worlds: a balanced understanding of the world, exposure to different cultures and languages, and the qualifications and teaching that will set a child in good stead should they wish to pursue higher education in the UK.
“Our teaching and training activities reinforce the ties between Spanish and British culture, encouraging the integration of our students and stimulating the person from the academic and personal point of view,” said a spokesperson for the British School of Valencia.
There are many excellent schooling options for British expats on the Costa del Sol, so be sure to check out what educational establishment might be best for your offspring should you take the plunge and move to Spain.
