According to the National Statistics Institute, year-to-date property sales (that’s until the end of September) are up by a huge 15 per cent in Málaga province – which, of course includes the Costa del Sol – putting it ahead of all other regions of Spain…
Nationwide, and excluding social housing, 24,096 residential property sales were registered in September – the most recent month for which data is currently available – which is the largest number since 2010 and also shows an increase of 14 per cent in comparison to August.
Across the country as a whole, year-to-date (end of September) property sales stood at 216,682, virtually the same as for the first 9 months in 2013, suggesting that the housing market is now stabilising.
The data also shows that in September, while resales were up by 17 per cent, perhaps underlining the shortage of quality new build projects on the market, new build sales increased by a rather more modest 10.5 per cent.
