Specsavers Opticas

Help the world to see with Specsavers Opticas. Every pair donated will make a huge difference to someone’s life.

On 10 October 2013, Specsavers Opticas launched their wonderful national campaign ‘Help the world to see’ with the ambitious target of collecting 3,000 pairs of used and unwanted glasses over the following 3 months to be distributed to those in need.

The response was fantastic with over 4,400 pairs of glasses donated over the three month campaign across all eight stores in Spain.

Aiming to improve the eyesight of the world’s poorest people, the company – working alongside charity, Lions Club – sent the glasses to developing countries across the world where people desperately need access to glasses, including Africa and India…After glasses are donated in store, they are then sent to the Lions Club’s recycling plant in Alicante where they are cleaned, graded according to prescription strength, and boxed for distribution.

Mariana Alvarez Racero, President of Lions Club Marbella said: “On behalf of Lions Club Marbella, I would like to acknowledge Specsavers Opticas’ cooperation and the extra interest it has given to this ongoing Lions Club campaign. Also our thanks to all those who have donated their used glasses at the collection box placed in all Specsavers Opticas stores.”

Leighton Griffiths and Nerea Galdos from Specsavers Marbella present the glasses to Mariana Álvarez Racero from the Marbella Lions Club.

Patricia Maxwell, President of Mijas La Cala Lions Club added: “We have a collection box in our Charity shop and have been sending glasses to our recycling centre in Alicante for many years. In the 3 months that Specsavers at Fuengirola collected glasses for us, it quadrupled the amount we would have collected in that period. These glasses will be recycled and distributed all over the world to people who do not have the facilities or funds for glasses. Thank you.”

Specsavers Opticas will continue to have a strong relationship with the Lions Club whilst all 8 Specsavers Opticas stores in Spain will remain as collection points for all types of used glasses (single vision, bifocals, varifocals or sunglasses).

So if you have any unwanted and unloved glasses or sunglasses at home (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), then why not put them to good use and get down to your local Specsavers (Marbella and Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol) and do your part in ´helping the world to see’!
