With Christmas just around the corner, it’s that time again to start wishfully planning how to spend your imaginary Christmas lottery winnings.
The annual Spanish Christmas Lottery is considered the biggest lottery worldwide (as measured by the total prize payout). Seems about right, considering the hugely popular December 22 Christmas payout is set to spread prizes around the country totalling up to over €2.2 billion!…
The first-place prize is aptly called El Gordo (the fat one) and this year, €640 million will be distributed among lucky winning ‘billete’ ticket holders.
There is also a follow-up draw on January 6, known as El Niño, which has received a huge boost this year with the creation of a one-off €40 million prize for a single ‘décimo’ ticket. It is the “biggest prize in the history” of the state lottery system.
I’ll be buying a ticket (or three) for sure!
