What’s on this weekend?
As part of my commitment to keep you updated with what’s on in Andalucía in the VIVA blog, I thought I’d give you a taster of some Costa del Sol events going on this weekend (15th-17th November). Conveniently, the following four events are taking place in four different areas along the Coast, so I’ve christened them this weekend's “Costa del Sol 4x4”.
And there really is something for everyone, especially if you’re a golfer, a shopaholic or a lover of all sports. Of course, there are hundreds of other things happening elsewhere in Málaga province, but read on for my top picks for this weekend, starting on the western Costa del Sol…
Setune Amateur Pairs 2019 Golf Tournament @ Finca Cortesín
Fancy going down to watch a bit of golf? If this plan tickles your fancy, the decadent and immaculate Finca Cortesín Golf & Hotel in Casares is the place to head this weekend. The Setune Amateur Pairs tournament, which started yesterday out on the course, is now moving into its final stages and tomorrow sees its climax and final round.
For those lucky enough to have secured a ticket, there’s also a prize-giving ceremony and gala dinner tomorrow evening at trendy Mahiki Beach in Marbella, which promises to be a tad fancier than a pint of lager and a club sandwich at the nineteenth hole.
Organised by Swedish pro golfer Peter Gustafsson, the ethos of the event is: “organised by professionals for amateur players”. This extends to online leader boards with live scoring and a complimentary gift pack on arrival, making amateur participants feel like pros competing at a real tour event. Jealous?
If you’re a regular player yourself, but didn't sign up for this one, take a look at this tournament schedule for golf competitions between now and the end of the year that you might want to take part in. They’re usually lots of fun and very inclusive for all ages and abilities!
MARCA Sport Weekend Marbella 2019
If you don’t want to just watch sports and crave participation, Sport Weekend Marbella 2019 sponsored by sports media company MARCA could be just the thing for you.
A vast programme of activities is planned for the weekend, which is aimed at increasing participation in a wide range of different sports through exhibitions, workshops, tournaments, lectures and round table events.
Thanks to a solid financial backing and guaranteed exposure via MARCA’s huge readership in Spain, both online and in print, the event has confirmed a number of ex-sportsmen to come and do meet-and-greet sessions.
And we’re not talking about the Bradford City A.F.C. goalkeeper back in the 1990s or an unknown pole-vaulter from yesteryear. Marbella and San Pedro de Alcántara welcome tennis legend Boris Becker, middle-distance Olympic gold medallist Hicham El Guerrouj, five-time Moto-GP winner Mick Doohan, golfer Sergio García and Football World Cup-winning coach (with Spain) Vicente del Bosque.
If you’re keen to meet your idol or attend any of the free workshops and activities.
XXXII Cross Torremolinos
Again, by way of carrying on the theme so far, this event is sports related. After all, what else do you expect from southern Spain; an area that prides itself on being the epicentre of Spanish sport and leisure?
Indeed, you would have to ask yourself where else in Europe you could stage outdoor events well into November or have a high season for golf at the same time as a “white Christmas” is expected elsewhere in Europe?
Anyway, I digress. The XXXII Cross Torremolinos is a running event organised by the municipality’s Town Hall and features a 6.5km race for adults, 2.45km fun run for juniors and shorter races for younger children.
If you’re a budding runner and you want to get involved, there may still be time to sign up for the event (for free) here if you get in there quick, since it looks like spaces are available. Failing that, you’ll have to settle for supporting the runners from the sidelines, since these types of events often bring with them a fantastic atmosphere.
Doesn’t sound like your cup of tea but want to visit the town anyway? Take a look at our Torremolinos Area Guide with video to find out what else there is to see!
Stock! Feria Outlet Málaga
Anyone reading this blog must think I’m obsessed with outlet shopping at the moment. I assure you, it is pure coincidence that the Málaga Exhibition Centre (Palacio de ferias y congresos) is hosting its own three-day outlet retail event this weekend and I’m not just obsessed with cheap branded clothing.
That said, it is certainly newsworthy. Featuring discounts of between 60% and 80% off top brands, the show welcomes labels like Billabong, Calvin Klein, Pepe Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger and Volcom. The Málaga event also includes free activities for kids and a complimentary babysitting service, as well as food stalls to keep shoppers fed and watered.
For more information, visit the Stock! Feria Outlet Málaga official website (only available in Spanish).
With so much going on here on the Costa del Sol, it’s little wonder people love living here and enjoy the amazing quality of life. From sports to shopping and a million other hobbies and pastimes, the Sunshine Coast has it covered!
Why not take a look at our properties for sale on the Costa del Sol and see how surprisingly affordable it is to make this lifestyle a reality for you…
