Why should you visit Casares?
From white, sugar cube-like houses cascading down the hillside in its old town to world-class golf resorts and splendid sandy beaches elsewhere in the municipality, you should visit Casares for a number of different reasons.
One of these reasons is that, immediately following on from the celebrations, feasts and processions at Easter, the village of Casares is hosting its thirty-eighth annual Culture Week – or Semana Cultural.
Casares Culture Week
From 20th to 29th April, residents of the municipality (and anyone else interested in the cultural initiative) will be able to take part in a wide range of family-friendly events and activities, as well as live music and poetry recitals.
Thanks in large part to the local town hall, other activities include theatre, speleology, book launches, an assortment of popular games, with cinema and circus workshops specifically aimed at kids.
Other reasons to visit Casares
OK, so maybe you’re not racing down to the car to head over to Casares on the strength of this local event. And you won’t be cancelling your travel plans elsewhere to indulge in a spot of post-Holy Week cave exploration.
But wait! There is so much more that the municipality offers both tourists and home owners, and I intend to outline some of the key reasons why you really should visit Casares… long after its Culture Week.
1. Outstanding beauty
Casares can be divided into three rough areas: Casares Pueblo (the white village high in the hills), its famed belt of golf courses closer to the coast, and Casares Costa (the beachfront area and marina).
In other words, you could say that Casares encapsulates everything the Costa del Sol offers. On the one hand a picture-postcard white village where the pace of life is slow and the views are captivating; while on the other hand a modern beach and golf resort town with every modern convenience close at hand.
Top golf courses beautifully adorn the lush countryside between the hills of Casares Pueblo and the golden sands of the beach, leading many to describe Casares as "where the mountains meet the sea".

Great, right? As if I needed to give more reasons to visit Casares, here are two more to give you an even better idea of the area...
2. Golfing Paradise
As mentioned in the video above, the Finca Cortesín Hotel and Golf Resort is a jewel in the crown of the Costa del Golf, attracting golf fanatics seeking five-star luxury from all over the world.
Besides this, there are several other courses nearby, including Casares Costa Golf Club, Doña Julia Golf Club, Estepona Golf and La Duquesa Golf Country Club. There is also a high concentration of superb courses in Sotogrande, which is just a short drive away.
3. Affordable property
Demand for property in Casares has grown considerably in the last couple of years, partly due to increasing home values in traditionally popular home buying areas and also because building licences for new residential projects are easier to come by than elsewhere.
In spite of this surge of interest in Casares, property there still remained over €1,000 per metre squared cheaper than in Marbella at the close of Q4 2018.
It is, therefore, an emerging area for real estate investment on the Costa del Sol and receives a lot of attention from buying clients. After all, it's only 10 minutes from Estepona, 20 minutes from Marbella and under an hour from both Málaga international airport and Gibraltar.
