Ever since the CAC Málaga first opened its doors back in 2003, one of its greatest ambitions has been to showcase the works of acclaimed South African artist William Kentridge. So prolific that he seems to be everywhere, major showcases have included the Louvre and New York’s MOMA, while he’s also directed operas at the Scala de Milan and the Big Apple’s Met as well as projecting videos in Venice and at the Cannes Festival. But like they say, all good things come to he who waits, and nine years on, Málaga’s renowned Centre of Contemporary Art at last gets its wish…
Entitled ¿No se unirá al baile? – in other words Won’t you join the dance? – the exhibition opens in the capital of the Costa del Sol on Tuesday 14 February – one of the most important dates of the year! – and runs until Sunday 13 May.
Unusually bringing together a collection of tapestries created by the artist over the last decade, and one of which – based on a 19th century map of Málaga by Luis Thuillier – has been made specifically for this event, the showcase also features many of his paintings, sculptures, mosaics, collages and videos. Born in Johannesburg in 1955, Kentridge is considered by critics as one of the most influential of artists on the international art scene today.
You can visit the exhibition from 10am to 8pm Tuesday to Sunday at the CAC Málaga Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, C/ Alemania, Málaga.
