Riviera del Sol, Mijas Costa
Many readers of this blog will be familiar with the coastal area of Mijas Costa due to its notoriety as one of the best seaside resorts on the Costa del Sol, that much I’m sure of. The popular neighbourhood of Riviera del Sol lies in the Mijas Costa municipality, neatly tucked away between the urbanizations of Calahonda and Miraflores.
What is there in Riviera del Sol?
If these names are alien to you, let me paint a picture. Riviera del Sol is home to thousands of property owners representing scores of different nationalities, whose homes occupy both the sought-after beachfront area and further up the hill towards Miraflores Golf and the extra-fast toll highway, which gives you quick access to the airport and anywhere else on the Coast.
The area is perfect for year-round living and is a very popular destination for holiday rentals for several reasons.
Location
Situated less than half an hour’s drive from Málaga airport, Riviera del Sol is a very short transfer for anyone visiting or using their property as a holiday home.
It is also just five and ten minutes from the lively resorts of La Cala de Mijas and Fuengirola respectively, while the cosmopolitan centre of Marbella, its buzzing boardwalk and beachside bars are a mere ten-minute drive in the other direction.
Riviera del Sol is located roughly in the centre of the Costa del Sol’s long expanse, meaning it is accessible from anywhere and is really convenient for going east towards Málaga, west towards Gibraltar or even to discover inland Andalucía.
This is part of the reason so many expats (myself included!) choose to make this stretch of coast their home. Another huge advantage is that you literally have…
Everything you need
The term “close to amenities” gets used a lot in real estate, but nowhere is this genuinely nearer to the truth than in Riviera del Sol. When you talk about a well-established urbanisation with all provisions for year-round living, this area is just the ticket.
The abundant amenities, which stay open all-year-round, include (among many other services): supermarkets, a shopping centre, a sports centre, a bank, restaurants, cafes, bars, a pharmacy, a veterinary clinic, a hairdresser’s, a park and the stylish Max Beach gym, venue and beach club.
What’s more, golfers are spoilt for choice with Miraflores Golf at the north side of the urbanisation and two other golf courses, La Siesta and Calanova, just a very short drive away.
Oh, and I almost forgot… the beach! The area of lower Riviera del Sol has a superb beach, which typically doesn’t get as crowded as other nearby beaches, so you’ll definitely find a space to lay down your towel, even in the busier summer months. That’s a massive plus, trust me!
